The Falkensteiners

greetings from wonderful Austria

Canada 2024

Day 1: Travel Day from Salzburg to Port Alberni (Canada)

Our adventure began with a car ride to Salzburg Airport, where my dad was behind the wheel. After checking in our luggage, we passed through security and enjoyed a quick drink at a cozy snack bar.

We boarded our flight from Salzburg to Frankfurt (LH1103) and then continued on to Vancouver, Canada (LH492), landing around 2:50 PM local time, with a short delay.

Navigating immigration was straightforward with an electronic terminal for passport control, where we scanned our passports and uploaded our entrance documents. After receiving our printout, we headed to the luggage belt, where we waited about 30 minutes for our bags.
Once we exited into the arrival hall, we handed our printed paperwork to the officer, who directed us to the appropriate exit.

Once we had our bags, we picked up our rental car, a Kia Sportage, and left the airport around 4:00 PM, heading south to the Tsawwassen BC Ferries Terminal. We arrived well ahead of our scheduled sailing, though there was a slight delay in the ferry loading process. Despite this, we arrived only a few minutes late in Nanaimo Duke Point.
The wait was a bit tedious after our long journey, but we stayed energized knowing we had a two-hour ferry ride ahead, followed by another hour and a half drive from Nanaimo to Port Alberni. To keep our spirits up, we stopped at a gas station along the way for some refreshing drinks.

Finally, we reached our destination, the charming Cedar Wood Lodge, around 9:30 PM, exhausted. After settling in, we went to bed around 10:30 PM
