Day 3: Journey to Telegraph Cove via Campbell River
Today was all about the journey as we departed from Port Alberni, making a brief stop at Walmart before heading toward Qualicum Beach via Highway 4 and then continuing north on Highway 19.
For lunch, we paused in Campbell River, where we took a leisurely stroll along the pier, enjoying the views and the fresh air. The visit made us excited to return in three days.
Continuing our drive north, we experienced a stretch of about 200 km without radio or phone service, which made the scenery even more immersive. Signals returned just before we turned toward Telegraph Cove.
Upon arriving at Telegraph Cove, we were greeted by the charming resort featuring quaint old houses, a picturesque boardwalk, and a marina nestled among the forest campground. While the campground welcomes visitors year-round, the resort and marina operate only from May to September. We checked into our cozy Bunkhouse suite.
After settling in, we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the boardwalk, reaching the end where the tour operators—Prince of Whales (for whale watching) and Tide Rip (for grizzly bear tours)—are based. For dinner, we indulged in a delightful meal at the restaurant on the boardwalk, savoring mussels, prawns in garlic sauce, a salmon filet, and, of course, a glass of red wine.
We turned in early, knowing we needed to be at Tide Rip Tours bright and early at 6:30 AM!
