Day 4: Bear Tour at Telegraph Cove
We arrived at the Tide Rip Grizzly Adventures shop at 6:30 AM to complete the necessary paperwork. Afterward, the group was divided into two, each assigned to different boats: Silver Bear and Glendale Girl. We were assigned to Silver Bear.
After a quick breakfast, we boarded the boat and received a brief safety orientation as we headed towards Knight Inlet, en route to Glendale Cove. About 10 minutes into our journey, Captain Max informed us of a potential issue with the second engine and considered returning to the base. However, after an additional 20 minutes of warming up the engines, everything seemed fine, and we continued on our way.
As we sailed, Vanessa, one of the guides, provided us with detailed information about the itinerary and the differences between grizzly bears and brown bears.
Upon entering Knight Inlet, we were lucky to spot a Sea wolf, eating a fish—a rare and fascinating sight! We paused to take some pictures, but the distance made it difficult to capture good shots with just a phone camera. After a brief stop, we continued towards Glendale Cove. Along the way, we spotted Pacific White-Sided Dolphins and eagerly scanned the coastline for bears. Initially, there were none in sight. But after a few loops, Vanessa announced a sighting: a bear with two cubs. We quickly made our way to the spot, where five other boats had already gathered. Vanessa identified the bear as Thimble, along with her two cubs. Even from a distance, they were absolutely adorable. (Photos will be added later.)
After some time observing the bears, Captain Max suggested we head back. We stopped for lunch at Lagoon Cove, although the original plan was to dine at Glendale Cove. Lunch consisted of wraps with chicken, vegetables, and a variety of sauces to customize our meal. Drinks were also provided.
Once everyone had finished lunch, we boarded the boat again and began our return to Telegraph Cove. On the way, near the Johnstone Strait, we were treated to the sight of Humpback Whales and even Orcas! It was truly an unforgettable experience.
Beside you see some interesting facts about the Johnstone Strait
Upon returning to the resort earlier than expected, we enjoyed a quick coffee at the local coffee shop. Afterward, we took a short walk to the Forest Campground, where we followed a trail leading to Bauza Beach.
